These are the terms for using themenu, in plain words. Please read them: by using themenu you agree to them. They are written to be understood, not as legal advice. How we handle your data is on the privacy page.
What themenu is
A small service for planning a household's meals, run as a hobby. The aim is to cover its costs, not to make a profit. There is no promise that it will always be up: it may be down at times, and features may change.
The free month
- Every new household gets a free month, 30 days from when it is made. No card is needed.
- Each person gets one free month. A household you own later, after leaving or being removed from one, does not get another.
- When the free month ends, nothing is charged. The features that use AI (planning a week, suggested swaps, making or updating the shopping list, Discover, photo, text and description imports, and filling in keywords and nutrition) stop until you subscribe. Everything else keeps working, and nothing is deleted.
Prices
$24 a year or $3 a month for the whole household, in US dollars, tax included: the price shown is the price you pay. Only the household's owner pays. Prices change only to keep covering costs, and never for a period you have already paid for.
Subscribing and renewal
- The owner subscribes from Settings, Plan. Stripe takes the payment as the merchant of record.
- Subscribing during the free month, or during free time from a code, keeps the rest of it: the first charge is on the day it ends, and checkout tells you the date.
- A subscription renews each year or each month until you cancel it.
- Before a yearly renewal we email you 7 days ahead with the amount, the date and how to cancel. Each monthly charge is followed by a receipt.
Cancelling
Cancelling is one button on the Plan card, with one confirmation. You keep everything until the end of the period you paid for, and it won't renew. You can resume until then.
Refunds
Ask within 14 days of any charge and you get all of it back, no questions asked. Use Send feedback in the app or email support@getthemenu.app. Ask for any refund before you delete your account; once it's deleted we can't find your payments from inside themenu.
Codes
- A code gives free time or a discount, for a set time or for good.
- Only the household's owner enters codes. A household has one code at a time and can use each code once.
- Free time from a code needs no card. When it ends nothing is charged unless you have chosen to subscribe; the AI features stop as they do when the free month ends.
- A discount applies to your subscription's charges for the time the code says.
- Codes can have a last day to enter them, and can be switched off. Switching one off never takes away what a household already got from it.
Fair use
Every request to the AI features costs us money, so each household has a monthly AI allowance. It is more than ordinary use needs, and larger in the first two months, when you are bringing your recipes in. If a household uses it up, the features that use AI (planning a week, suggested swaps, making or updating the shopping list, Discover, photo, text and description imports, and filling in keywords and nutrition) pause until the next month starts, on the date shown. Recipes, the list and cooking work as usual. Please don't automate themenu or use it for anything but your own household's meals.
Your recipes
What you put in stays yours. We store it and send it to the services named on the privacy page only to do what you ask. Recipes and photos you import are for your household's own use; don't use themenu to republish them.
Deleting your account
You can delete your account at any time from the Account page, whether or not you pay. The privacy page says what that removes. If you own a household with a subscription, the subscription is cancelled at once with no further charges. Ask for any refund before you delete your account; once it's deleted we can't find your payments from inside themenu.
